Safety Coordinator-Lawrence, KS - Allen Press
This position is responsible for creating awareness and coordinating safety and environmental issues within the company. This position reports directly to the Manager of Human Resources and works closely with the Plant Operations Director.
Essential Functions:
- Perform job duties and conducts self in accordance with Allen Press,
Inc. core values.
- Create an awareness and enthusiasm for safety at Allen Press, Inc.
- Maintain close communication with managers concerning environmental
and safety programs along with any issues.
- Implement accident and loss prevention programs.
- Research safety and environmental issues and their impact upon the
company.
- Work directly with supervisors and employees to maintain that safety
programs are administered and followed within their department.
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices.
- Coordinate the corporate MSDS information maintenance.
- Maintain current written safety programs that are company specific.
- Ensure that safety programs are in compliance with all federal,
state, and local laws and regulations.
- Coordinate safety training with employees and supervisors over
topics that are mandated by regulatory agencies as well as those that apply to specific job duties. Maintain records of training activities and employee programs, monitoring effectiveness.
- Handle workers' comp claims: File workers' comp claim reports with
comp carrier. Monitor treatment and prognosis for injured employees.
Maintain close communication with the injured worker, treating physicians, supervisors and workers' comp carrier. Investigate all illness and injury reports. Track workers' comp bills.
- Maintain records and reporting systems on lost time accidents and
property losses.
- Investigate and resolve ergonomic issues. Perform workstation
evaluations and job hazard analysis making ergonomic suggestions as needed.
- Identify loss producing conditions and practices, recommending
appropriate corrective action of management and follow up with implementation.
- Coordinate the removal of hazardous materials.
- Coordinate all building security, including door prox chips and
alarm system.
- Monitor any safety related licenses, including driver's, forklift,
and CPR/First Aid.
- Attend conferences and seminars to remain educated on any changes
within the safety and environmental arena.
- Perform regular safety inspections of all company work areas.
- Coordinate Safety Committee.
- Maintain contact with outside organizations such as fire departments
and rescue teams in order to assure information exchange and mutual assistance.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Assist in other HR functions as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience/Qualifications:
- College degree or equivalent in safety related field preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
- Experience with corporate safety programs preferred.
- Knowledge of ADA requirements preferred.
- Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work in excess of 40 hours a week when necessary. Able to
work evening hours as required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personnel and company
information.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to
communicate and respond to others in a clear and understandable manner.
- Possess strong problem solving and critical thinking skills by
applying, analyzing, and evaluating information to reach an answer or conclusion.
- Possess strong time management skills, capable of organizing,
planning and effectively using time in a multi-tasking environment.
- Ability to deal with very detailed information accurately.
- Demonstrate strong Excel and Word computer skills, along with
developing and running reports using HRIS (Human Resource Information
System) system.
- Ability to utilize discretionary authority as needed.
- Ability to travel occasionally for training as needed.
Cognitive/Physical Requirements:
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally:
activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from
1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. Ability to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as copier and fax
machine.
- Ability to work in an open office environment with moderate noise
and traffic.
