Human Resources Intern/Assistant Holiday Inn CoCo Key Water Resort

Position: Spring/Summer Intern & Part Time Assistant Ð Human Resources
Location: 9103 E. 39th Street Kansas City, MO 64133
Pay: $8.00-12.00/hr. based on qualifications

COMPANY DESCRIPTION:

We are also just a short distance from Kansas CityÕs major attractions including Power & Light District, the Plaza, KC Zoo, Crown Center, Union Station, and the Independence Center.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong analytical and research skills
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must be willing to work flexible part time schedule at about 20 hours per week on varying days usually between Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
BENEFICIAL SKILLS INCLUDE:
  • Public speaking and Strong Interpersonal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of databases (i.e., Access, PeopleSoft, ADP, Kronos ect.)
  • Strong attention detail and excellent proof-reading/editing abilities.
  • Prior Human Resources/Hospitality Industry experience/education.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local programs and compliance
GENERAL PURPOSE
To assist in the overall operation of the Human Resources function by maintaining accurate associate records. To provide support in the areas of employment, benefit administration, associate relations and training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Screen all applicants and determine eligibility for employment. Refer to department manager when appropriate. Conduct all reference checks and execute the employment process.

Prepare correspondence and memos as needed.

Maintain all logs (new hire, termination, transfers, department meetings, turnover reports) daily by period and prepare reports in a timely, accurate manner.

Assist with all benefit enrollment and administration including group health insurance, 401K, vacation, sick, leave of absence and jury duty pay. Ensure all policies and procedures are followed, forms are accurate and administered in a timely manner.

Assist with orientation; overview of benefits to new associates, instruct on completion of enrollment forms and audit for accuracy, provide overview of company handbook.

Notify managers of monthly reports, prepare payroll action forms and track all completed reviews to ensure reviews are given in a timely manner.

Administer OSHA, Workers Compensation and Unemployment Claims responsibilities for hotel. Keep DHR abreast of claims requiring management attention and assist in the communication with insurance company and medical care provider.

Assist with reception duties: greeting concerned associates and directing to appropriate manager if necessary.

Assist in the production of associate newsletter.

Maintain HR files and ensure that filing is done at the end of each day and/or week.

Assist in conducting exit interviews and track trends.

Keep associate bulletin boards current, post memos, pictures of associate events, loss prevention materials.

Inventory office and benefit supplies on a regular basis, complete purchase orders needed to purchase supplies and maintain needed inventory.

Hours: 10-29 hours per week, predominately Monday through Friday, daytime hours, occasional weekends.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with special projects as needed.

Should possess the ability to smile and make others feel welcome in the hospitality industry.

Occasional intern supervising of HR duties, however, must be able to manage all associate concerns.

Education/Formal Training

Candidates in the process of obtaining their Associates / BachelorÕs degree in HRM or related field or equivalent education/experience preferred.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge

Must have basic PC knowledge, minimum typing speed of 45 wpm, ability to write and communicate professionally, bi-lingual fluency a plus. Must be hospitality oriented and possess the ability to work under pressure. Should possess the ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.

Skills

Excellent hearing required to conduct interviews, hear associate concerns, conduct reference checks, answer phones.

Excellent vision required to review all incoming documentation, read applications, filing, etc.

Excellent speech communication skills required to conduct interviews, reference checks, handle phone and associate inquiries.

Excellent comprehension and literacy required to read all documentation, applications and write documentation; i.e., screening forms, etc.

Abilities
Transporting supplies up to 35 lbs., carrying training materials. Lift binders of documentation.

Bending/kneeling to lower filing cabinets, bottom desk drawers for materials.

Mobility Ð need to be able to move about the hotel to maintain associate relations. Possess the ability to move around office to access files.

Continuous standing Ð to assist in training sessions. No climbing or driver required.

Material/Equipment Used: Typewriter/PC Computer 35-50% of the day for payroll/HR use, typing correspondence, and preparing reports.

Environment : Work inside 100% of day.
